The paper deals with wielbark metal findings and artifacts, which are closely related to Wielbark culture in Bohemia and Moravia. Besides the individual artifacts (mainly fi bulas, bracelets, pendants) comes from the Elbe Germanic group first cremation burial of Wielbark culture from Semčice in Central Bohemia. Strong contacts to Wielbark culture are in the Elbe Germanic area for Markomans evident in the presentday Czech Republic territory, especially in the 2nd half od the 2nd century, respectively in the transitional stage B2/C1. Important findings come from two cremation burial place – in Třebusice and Jevíčko. Numerous findings pertaining to the Wielbark culture can also be found in settlements in Central Bohemia, sporadically in other areas. The author of this study also deals with interpretations and meanings of Wielbark findings (resp. artifacts) for Markomans.

Marcomans and “superiores barbari” in Třebusice and Jevíčko about the time of Marcomannic wars. The problems of transitional stage B2/C1 in Bohemia and Moravia. The paper deals with the new findings of graves and settlements from Bohemia and Moravia during the 2nd half of 2nd century, especially important burials and metal artifacts (mainly fibulas) of Třebusice (Central Bohemian Region) and Jevíčko (historical territory of Moravia, now The Pardubice Region). Author focuses on developing more detailed chronology of finding complexes before, during and just after Marcomannic wars (B2b, B2/C1 and C1a). It was found that on the territory of Marcomans migrates at this time “superiores barbari”, ie. bearers of the Przeworsk and partly the Wielbark culture. Similar situation with the findings of the Przeworsk and the Wielbark culture on the territory of Marcomans can be observed in other regions, which can be divided into eight main areas (north-western, central and eastern Bohemia, Malá Haná region/CZ, central and southern Moravia, Záhorie/SK and the northern part of Lower Austria).

The relevance of the detector findings for studying the Roman period. From the remarks above it is clear that metal detectors given into good hands can serve science, but otherwise can lead to loss. The aim of the systematic “detector works” should be not only preservation and protection of cultural heritage, but also systematically publishing which would involve mainly specialists in each period. Metal objects of Roman and Germanic found in the context of settlements and also in other contexts on the territory of Central Barbaricum are invaluable sources of information. These objects are important assuming that they will not only be rescued and thoroughly documented, but also if one can extract a maximum of scientific knowledge to solve particular problems. On the example of several findings and sites from Bohemia and Moravia, I tried to outline the importance of the use of metal detectors for the Roman period. We can also proceed to use them in other periods “before Rome” or “after Rome” too.

Notes on a study of the oldest Germanic pottery in Bohemia and Moravia.
The article deals with the oldest findings of Elbe-Germanic pottery in the Bohemia and Moravian lands at the beginning of the Roman period (Eggers A). Particular attention is paid to vessels turned on a wheel, especially slightly grey ceramics. According to certain finds from Bohemia, central Germany and the Main region we cannot exclude the theory that Germanic people along the Labe river, as part of the Grossromsted culture, might already have known the technique of the potter’s
wheel in the second half of the first century B.C. and might have used it. This is made evident by finds of vase-like vessels turned on a wheel which were decorated with Elbe-Germanic groove patterns from the sites of Plaňany (central
Bohemia) and Dingolshausen (Mainfranken). In this way, we can question the existing opinion on vessels turned on a wheel in Eggers A period, which were interpreted as La Tene (Celtic).
